One Platform. All Your 5G RAN Needs

Radio Access Network (RAN)

The RAN is the part of a telecommunications system that connects end-user devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or IoT sensors, to the operator’s core network. It acts as the bridge between users and the rest of the network, enabling wireless communication and access to mobile services. A typical RAN consists of radio base stations (such as gNodeBs in 5G or eNodeBs in 4G), antennas, and remote radio units, which transmit and receive radio signals to and from user devices.

These radio-related functions include radio resource management, mobility management, data encryption from devices, session handling, and handover control. The RAN manages the handovers between cells, managing signal strength. It also provides access and coordinates resources across various radio sites. In 5G networks, the RAN supports multiple frequency bands, such as six gigahertz and millimeter wave bands

Open RAN (O-RAN)

Open RAN (O-RAN) takes a different approach to radio access networks. Using open, standardized interfaces, O-RAN uses hardware and software from multiple vendors, contrasting with traditional RAN deployments, which use complete integrated solutions from a single vendor.  This brings greater flexibility, cost efficiency, and innovation to mobile network deployments. Open RAN architectures also leverage intelligent controllers to handle the growing complexity of modern radio technologies and network deployments, particularly important in 5G networks.

Artificial Intelligence RAN (AI-RAN)

Artificial Intelligence RAN (AI-RAN) refers to the integration of artificial intelligence into the radio access network, both in the hardware, software and operational processes. This aims to improve network performance, efficiency and open new opportunities for operators where AI is not just “associated” with RAN but an integral part of the RAN function.  AI-driven RAN plays a pivotal role in 5G standalone deployments by automating tasks like traffic prediction, real-time resource optimization, and proactive maintenance. It is also helpful for energy efficiency, spectrum management, and to optimize RAN behavior. AI-RAN can operate in parallel with traditional RAN, supporting additional AI workloads on shared infrastructure.
