What is Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)?
Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is an advanced method of examining and managing network traffic. It analyzes data packets – i.e. the basic units used to transport all forms of digital communication like voice, video, or messages across mobile and fixed networks. DPI provides critical visibility into user traffic and enables accurate service classification and real time performance monitoring. This is relevant even in encrypted environments, to help ensure quality and optimize network performance.
DPI for FWA Service Analysis
DPI enables operators to monitor and assess the quality of experience for encrypted video streaming and other services. The solution leverages multiple technologies, including flow pattern matching, bi-directional flow correlation, heuristics, and statistical analysis, to detect and classify network traffic. The system identifies over 4,000 applications and protocols, with around 300 added annually.
Frequent Protocol Updates
RADCOM’s solution includes DPI to support frequent protocol plugin updates through in-service software upgrades and allows the inclusion of localized applications. Key benefits include highly granular classification (distinguishing between services like Gmail and Google Maps under Google, or Facebook Video and Messenger under Meta) and high accuracy. This results in less than 5% of apps remaining undefined and a zero false positives approach. It enables operators to gain detailed insights into network usage and quality trends, supporting proactive network management and superior customer experiences.
Quality Video Streaming
RADCOM FWA Service Analysis enables monitoring of video streaming services for popular apps, offering analysis of video KPIs such as buffering, latency, and resolution. It decodes and analyzes the underlying protocols in encrypted video streams. This allows operators to view subscriber video streaming quality of experience across multiple dimensions.
